The series now has 20 volumes and has expanded beyond lakes into a wide variety of paleoenvironmental topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"block-87ceab3a-a10f-4f54-87ca-88a7b34f2d04\"><li>Volume 1: Basin Analysis, Coring, and Chronological Techniques<\/li><li>Volume 2: Physical and Geochemical Methods<\/li><li>Volume 3: Terrestrial, Algal, and Siliceous Indicators<\/li><li>Volume 4: Zoological Indicators<\/li><li>Volume 5: Data Handling and Numerical Techniques<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meta Analyses<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The increasing number of high quality studies allowed for datasets to be combined to ask questions at continental scales (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/102\/12\/4397.short\">Smol et al. 2005<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1111\/j.1365-2486.2008.01670.x?casa_token=W65JGOnplSgAAAAA%3AYUZdlxeRMyeBWTPZwRrpRf9NWy8S5QpahAr8KYv4555mjN-cwZfI7iYfL7Mbzij7XwOqrNs5rxm6BA\">R\u00fchland et al. 2008<\/a>)<\/li><li>The large amount of sediments preserved in fridges around the world from lakes\/ponds that no longer exist (i.e. disappearing arctic ponds)&nbsp;<\/li><li>New class of studies comparing multiple cores taken from the same lake through time (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10933-020-00143-z\">Rydberg et al. 2020<\/a>)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New Frontiers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Growing beyond meta analyses, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Big_data\">Big data<\/a> approaches will allow for analyses at even large scales<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Environmental_DNA\">Environmental DNA<\/a><\/li><li>Growth outside the classic paleolimnological focal points of North America and Europe, increasing the global perspective of paleolimnological change&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>That concludes the most definitive history of paleolimnology, available anywhere on the planet, in podcast form, so far as we know&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/coreideas\/ep22-history-part4\">Episode 22 can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;All have their worth and each contributes to the worth of the others&#8221; &#8211; John Ronald Reuel Tolkien The fourth&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":469,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[215],"tags":[111,109,151,144,152,153],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.13 -
